Then we headed over to Lee's Summit so I could get have my hair and make-up trial run at Salon Ahloe.<br /><br />Shirley had a pedicure. Isn't she cute as a button?<br /><img src="http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/100_2352.jpg" alt="" border="0" height="300" width="200" /><br /><br />Next we were on to the main event of the day. The shower!<br />We had a nice turnout including my 92 year-old great-grandmother, Grannie P.<br /><img src="http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/100_2381-1.jpg" alt="" border="0" /><br /><br />We played 3 games. The first one we all had balloons that we popped and inside was a slip of paper with an event that occurred on May 9th. The winner was the person who's slip said that Bart and I get married on May 9th, 2009. Grannie P. won that one! Did you know that the beer pump and the first contraceptive were patented on May 9th?<br /><br />For the next game they set out jars of spices and we had to guess what they were. I won that one with 3 right. It's a lot harder then it sounds!<br /><br />For the last game they sent me out of the room and everyone had to write down what I was wearing. My bridesmaid, Stephanie, won that game. She did kind of have an unfair advantage though. We bought the same dress for the shower!! We didn't discover it until the night before and she had to get another dress. <img src="http://forum.realbrides.info/Smileys/invision/sad.gif" alt="Sad" border="0" /> I told her she didn't have to, but she insisted. So I think she totally deserved to win that game!<br /><br />The food was delicious. My sister made some amazing cookies. We had a nice cheese and cracker tray and an awesome shrimp c*cktail with mango salsa. For drinks they served a champagne mixed drink with grape juice ice cubes that had strawberries and starfruit frozen inside. Super cute!<br /><br />It was really nice to have my friends and family all together. I got some really nice and thoughtful gifts.<br /><img src="http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/100_2382.jpg" alt="" border="0" height="200" width="300" /><br /><img src="http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/100_2386.jpg" alt="" border="0" height="200" width="300" /><br />By far though this is my favorite gift. A handmade quilt from my Grandma.<br /><img src="http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/100_2388.jpg" alt="" border="0" height="200" width="300" /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbNZPpQcMRv25El1RNfIM16MZKB9wRJILtTH-cjpMEW8v0nTF8zLGuwyPyL6hnPH3xtgUt6fsjxHce-EgLr1jIg76F9eus50kG2o3tPROeqTGX_wMd_Z1V5HJd9Q7bpaaqqI89NozliOc/s1600-h/100_2390.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 355px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbNZPpQcMRv25El1RNfIM16MZKB9wRJILtTH-cjpMEW8v0nTF8zLGuwyPyL6hnPH3xtgUt6fsjxHce-EgLr1jIg76F9eus50kG2o3tPROeqTGX_wMd_Z1V5HJd9Q7bpaaqqI89NozliOc/s400/100_2390.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5330291659957565650" border="0" /></a><br />(I'm tearing up now just thinking about it.)<br /><br />I really have to give major props to my dad. My mom and sister have many talents, however party panning is not one of them and they'll be the first to tell you. Dad and I have always been the party throwers of the family. So when my dad caught wind of what Mom and Sis originally planned he sort of took over behind the scenes. He basically took care of all the menu planning and most of the prep and also did the decorations and favors. Then he stepped back and let my mom and sister take all the credit. My dad is really an amazing guy and if you can't tell I kind of put him up on a pedestal.<br /><br />So while we were doing our girly thing Bart took Dad suit shopping for the wedding. They picked out a nice suit and then went home to watch the game.<br /><img src="http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/IMG_0391-1.jpg" alt="" border="0" height="300" width="225" /><br />I think they really have some nice man bonding time. I really think my dad is enjoying this since he's never had son to hang out with. Getting to enjoy sports is a little new for him. He's been kind of used to tea parties. <img src="http://forum.realbrides.info/Smileys/invision/smiley.gif" alt="Smiley" border="0" /><br /><br />After the party we went back to my apartment and I gave my sister a thank you gift for hosting. And apologies for the delay in posting, but I've been one busy bride with the countdown under a month now!<br /><br />So on to the good stuff.<br /><br />Saturday, April 4th was my bridal shower. More on that later. I decided to take full advantage of the picture taking I knew would occur and have my hair and make-up trial runs. OK, let's be honest, I needed something to occupy me while my mom and sister set up the shower. Otherwise I would have driven them batty.<br /><br />I had the hardest time finding an inspiration picture. I had seen a gorgeous bride on one of the many blogs I follow months ago and said to myself "Wow, her hair is stunning. I wish I could pull that look off." Then I dismissed the post and moved along to the 101 others in my reader that day. The hairstyle apparently stayed in my subconscious because as decision time for my hair came near I thought about that post more and more. "Alright," I said, "maybe I CAN pull this look off. In fact, I think it would be perfect with my new brunette locks and vintage style dress." So for weeks I searched for that elusive post to no avail. I gave up hope and decided to try another route.<br /><br />Finally, in the final hour, quite literally as it was midnight on Friday, I found my inspiration! It was not the original blog post but better. It was Kiera Knightly in Atonement. And it was perfect.<br /><br />So this is what I took my hairdresser, Leigh:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZNbCc6Q8S_jUk3X4XbGi08j16Avvh04yorahEGj5U0sCyNHmSFGwseXzVSbAlDE46tmkrJi14MBQ_9571O6hlJTcMLbZDNxnyNKzEL3CShBs5ikdCwvlPf3evUot6V2u-SAOoSzLnb3g/s1600-h/mWf5E6.jpeg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 309px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZNbCc6Q8S_jUk3X4XbGi08j16Avvh04yorahEGj5U0sCyNHmSFGwseXzVSbAlDE46tmkrJi14MBQ_9571O6hlJTcMLbZDNxnyNKzEL3CShBs5ikdCwvlPf3evUot6V2u-SAOoSzLnb3g/s400/mWf5E6.jpeg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323994125753651442" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />And this is what she gave me!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR9JTMOLM1vpqj6yqxilEci16Ngh6jhF9mvk5rL70bovbrPDAELiqSus2MY5M2sn5ZmVvBR4Nply7RvpUFv9Mc0xSCeJbLDFQFlITNgwe6_WXL0Cs3jYTzC700C4wHe634X4L7IHylONQ/s1600-h/Back+Hair+2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR9JTMOLM1vpqj6yqxilEci16Ngh6jhF9mvk5rL70bovbrPDAELiqSus2MY5M2sn5ZmVvBR4Nply7RvpUFv9Mc0xSCeJbLDFQFlITNgwe6_WXL0Cs3jYTzC700C4wHe634X4L7IHylONQ/s400/Back+Hair+2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323993406960451090" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0WV8GsQDTGSpHvv952RURZNB6NlznVH79BUD6xeVZk3YUriwDj3H7xIBhdsFZdOH3snvnEJxBUHW4dqt05PVBxzWFmj4tTSxttEH5W8fqSVutghmFSPNXnx5Xb7LdKX2HfhyphenhyphenSe60hu38/s1600-h/Back+Hair+3.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0WV8GsQDTGSpHvv952RURZNB6NlznVH79BUD6xeVZk3YUriwDj3H7xIBhdsFZdOH3snvnEJxBUHW4dqt05PVBxzWFmj4tTSxttEH5W8fqSVutghmFSPNXnx5Xb7LdKX2HfhyphenhyphenSe60hu38/s400/Back+Hair+3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323996777932260754" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU3_YuWwxtQtH9injEzzPAHZ9o6q7kD_BKLocuMItgwVoOWl7Tlpxx1TUxapAi5kIswNqiN20-4tNTX4DgLPo4HkX_pH-j4x72gHTbNbVd3-gssa1Nnxm8Vp6lWKGHACixGVuZWkpSNMw/s1600-h/Side+Hair+2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU3_YuWwxtQtH9injEzzPAHZ9o6q7kD_BKLocuMItgwVoOWl7Tlpxx1TUxapAi5kIswNqiN20-4tNTX4DgLPo4HkX_pH-j4x72gHTbNbVd3-gssa1Nnxm8Vp6lWKGHACixGVuZWkpSNMw/s400/Side+Hair+2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323997335216520690" border="0" /></a><br />I have a few adjustments to make but overall I love it!<br /><br />As for the make-up I had fortunately been smart enough to pull out a picture I had seen in a magazine a month or two into our engagement. It's music to my ears. Quite literally in fact. Today I booked the incredibly talented <a href="http://www.guitarelegance.com">Jim Lammers</a> to play guitar for the wedding. I had to go solo to this meeting and I was a little nervous meeting a strange man at his house so I emailed my friend Marcy to make sure he didn't give off a creepy vibe. She assured me that, although having never met him herself, he was perfectly safe and that her future mother-in-law lived next door so if I needed anything just to knock on the door of the white house with the red shutters. I'm happy to report that he is a very nice man and in fact not at all a serial killer. Or if he is I apparently don't fit his victim profile.<br /><br />Having very little direction when I arrived I was glad to see that he was full of helpful advice. The few things that I knew I wanted he was very happy to accommodate. Together we have decided on a classical mix for the prelude. The mothers will be seated to "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" by Bach. The attendants will walk to "Here comes the sun" by the Beatles. And me? Well, you'll just have to wait on that one. I want to surprise Bart with my choice. :)<br /><br />We'll exit to "Love and Marriage" by James van Heusen and then Jim will stay for about an hour and play for our guests on the lawn.<br /><br />Jim was even kind enough to give me one of his cd's which I'm enjoying now!The Future Mrs. Barthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08269700954154536403noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160687329779727419.post-85462113155588783142009-03-18T09:48:00.000-07:002009-04-13T08:41:24.628-07:00The wedding night (que "sexy music")Mom, close your eyes. ;)<br /><br />Colton informed me last night that after our amazing (read exhausting) wedding day we will be crashing in this swank downtown hotel!!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJwluolS2Pit1JFxRo_xSQfqF_Y9kA3sJG6lQ0Y9-hRCFm8_6esSbSCBwziQu-yN2jkzHvvSLVhcEjRXzCSd1iCcawkNaYaS8zhRbg9vTdTE2LMEOFSdSJwhcTWyNmGiYWt48easgK5Gc/s1600-h/Ho_Outside_Item.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJwluolS2Pit1JFxRo_xSQfqF_Y9kA3sJG6lQ0Y9-hRCFm8_6esSbSCBwziQu-yN2jkzHvvSLVhcEjRXzCSd1iCcawkNaYaS8zhRbg9vTdTE2LMEOFSdSJwhcTWyNmGiYWt48easgK5Gc/s400/Ho_Outside_Item.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314573156671394386" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />I've been (not so subtly) hinting for months that I'd love to stay at <a href="http://www.hotelphillips.com/index2.asp?sourceid=">Hotel Phillips</a> for our wedding night and he listened! Bart and I went down to Westport to partake in arguably Kansas City's best burger and a refreshing adult beverage. Afterward we wandered through the Flea Market and Urban Mining. We went without any purchases. Unproductive towards my teacup collection project but enjoyable nonetheless. So what is so exciting about the non-productiveness of our morning you may ask yourself? Let me tell you. It geared us up for our very fruitful afternoon and evening.<br /><br />Today the invitations were assembled and hit the mail!!<br /><br />The invitation...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVvlsH635NVmaJ65XSi85ue_-hq3nNd579tzKbntlhTA9KZNZxtOneoXNWO7rS0OYKbZglFRZn6nOu_ZbCZNL29tQk_pp0ppANStZYjcX9t3XipqpRN6ufPuxijXaPyc7jng54GhjEnAg/s1600-h/IMG_0349-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVvlsH635NVmaJ65XSi85ue_-hq3nNd579tzKbntlhTA9KZNZxtOneoXNWO7rS0OYKbZglFRZn6nOu_ZbCZNL29tQk_pp0ppANStZYjcX9t3XipqpRN6ufPuxijXaPyc7jng54GhjEnAg/s400/IMG_0349-1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311035645385787474" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGY2Z7GER8IuWvt567Rk_jJaYwzmN8dVubAnaUbJ-GljKbrJP8HHEXn8mtn9z0OVIMgmK4L9_t1eKOlasaIOrRsi7JdjlIXe_5UOlY-0cTqfS_osIsQPjibvtBgBYza27JOr3FxnAi80A/s1600-h/IMG_0351.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGY2Z7GER8IuWvt567Rk_jJaYwzmN8dVubAnaUbJ-GljKbrJP8HHEXn8mtn9z0OVIMgmK4L9_t1eKOlasaIOrRsi7JdjlIXe_5UOlY-0cTqfS_osIsQPjibvtBgBYza27JOr3FxnAi80A/s400/IMG_0351.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311036349915709890" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJe7EUdG0yZAGMEC09z4cAiUC6BwWcj2VzFLc2U9dbsKL1eFdAs0OzoGQ9Z_cF7PGaSRhJ-UZ7c0TcJ5jLhRgGJg2ZQVXkYJ2vZU1g94CuQXGLcXiJnIff1wyJHYQ-P7WlJ1ITlgLKBjs/s1600-h/IMG_0355.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJe7EUdG0yZAGMEC09z4cAiUC6BwWcj2VzFLc2U9dbsKL1eFdAs0OzoGQ9Z_cF7PGaSRhJ-UZ7c0TcJ5jLhRgGJg2ZQVXkYJ2vZU1g94CuQXGLcXiJnIff1wyJHYQ-P7WlJ1ITlgLKBjs/s400/IMG_0355.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311036576544227170" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9kG6JlqvAS5idrdOTsY8xoi2WSsrX1aV5DLn7YfnncEmI2-AHc6Ne3XUYlYz_E-0EuNy5qgg-jy7OdiumweGIzrohdZ84O-N31_qBGCiZW90Bi1UB6YhcKLOgUJJyxqZVO9_Y8DDMwGI/s1600-h/IMG_0326.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9kG6JlqvAS5idrdOTsY8xoi2WSsrX1aV5DLn7YfnncEmI2-AHc6Ne3XUYlYz_E-0EuNy5qgg-jy7OdiumweGIzrohdZ84O-N31_qBGCiZW90Bi1UB6YhcKLOgUJJyxqZVO9_Y8DDMwGI/s400/IMG_0326.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311035901526701490" border="0" /></a>We also included a matching bookmark with our wedding date and various quotes about love and marriage. Because after meeting my florist, that's exactly what I needed. Today I met with <a href="http://www.flowersbyemily.com/">Flowers by Emily</a>. She's the first florist I interviewed and quite honestly the last. Maybe it's the fact that I'm getting closer everyday and all the wedding planning has exhausted me of vendor meetings. Or, perhaps it's that flowers aren't my biggest priority by a long shot. But I like to think it's because Emily was so nice, so cute and so helpful. I just felt like she got it. Her shop is adorable and the music she was playing, well, right up my alley. Overall, I couldn't be happier with our meeting. After our brief, albeit productive, meeting I walked away with this as my inspiration.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEyTN7UgBCxfvbkSjpQF0sTyf5192InkbXJgrzPrOwcM1HnFu-Dz71v1CVwkjDV05bK3ARaAXglHwTSajWHCjLg1Wz9U4QUATlgeobImvCo7B2oaw_qelQ5GJwf5AYPYxvky633sa9a8E/s1600-h/6xlUYf.jpeg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 312px; height: 493px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEyTN7UgBCxfvbkSjpQF0sTyf5192InkbXJgrzPrOwcM1HnFu-Dz71v1CVwkjDV05bK3ARaAXglHwTSajWHCjLg1Wz9U4QUATlgeobImvCo7B2oaw_qelQ5GJwf5AYPYxvky633sa9a8E/s400/6xlUYf.jpeg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296947700137379650" border="0" /></a>The Future Mrs. Barthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08269700954154536403noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160687329779727419.post-3526533238081745662009-01-28T21:50:00.000-08:002009-01-29T06:51:44.628-08:00Look out world, here we come!!It's official, we're international globe trotters! They have forced us out of our little shell and introduced us to some wonderful people. In a mere matter of months we have pockets full of fun memories and hearts full of gratitude for the wonderful couple who have brought so much to our lives.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNIDvwHp3Fw7ZKQ1B2WgEW23_taQRtl_-9fb8Od6-ndVqlE6cbyrRfg8IMF5HU37qPIcgHofDFwZr2F1eUr2VEjf2wYTnwFO7Dvyw9FiXYoSuoM7m9zOHuLOlCcgbjDeA5mKK6JHsbgPQ/s1600-h/20081213-Griswold-1586.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNIDvwHp3Fw7ZKQ1B2WgEW23_taQRtl_-9fb8Od6-ndVqlE6cbyrRfg8IMF5HU37qPIcgHofDFwZr2F1eUr2VEjf2wYTnwFO7Dvyw9FiXYoSuoM7m9zOHuLOlCcgbjDeA5mKK6JHsbgPQ/s400/20081213-Griswold-1586.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293610595845234002" border="0" /></a><br /><br />In true Nicole and Shannon fashion they decided to push their wedding up almost a full year and pulled off, with immense help from family and friends, a wedding focused on what really mattters. Family and friends. It was a party that no one wanted to leave. One that when the lights finally flickered and you were headed home you felt satisfied knowing that life is good and love is still just as giddying and contagious as ever was.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQJ3kU_2llbc_b-wBfYyHhEDnPN8y4O52EUSe91VhgV0128l6dF14Ua5bszNVgtuYMikTi3LVjzgQDOdXTpXLokbSZK2SLaY5gu4hZDjUKhKnUSOK5UwPLnQS6gW-O0yackK8TZOluOl0/s1600-h/20081213-Griswold-1465.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQJ3kU_2llbc_b-wBfYyHhEDnPN8y4O52EUSe91VhgV0128l6dF14Ua5bszNVgtuYMikTi3LVjzgQDOdXTpXLokbSZK2SLaY5gu4hZDjUKhKnUSOK5UwPLnQS6gW-O0yackK8TZOluOl0/s400/20081213-Griswold-1465.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293611294389887634" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii2NSXWitiV62Glv8DN4xw-JPiVhoXGi5oYUGSxn2FgnAteY8BLjEXREasEntpICLXS-XgJ6qkvumEVx0RLKVervbj14voZEk_AFmCeSie4yDlBMknJzycYV-moIEvg5hzgzFe1gZ3qQQ/s1600-h/20081213-Griswold-1618.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii2NSXWitiV62Glv8DN4xw-JPiVhoXGi5oYUGSxn2FgnAteY8BLjEXREasEntpICLXS-XgJ6qkvumEVx0RLKVervbj14voZEk_AFmCeSie4yDlBMknJzycYV-moIEvg5hzgzFe1gZ3qQQ/s400/20081213-Griswold-1618.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293613416859663714" border="0" /></a><br />Start to finish it was a fun wedding. Everything from Shannon's beautiful vows analogizing moss and rock, he being the moss of course, to the newly wedded couple trying to exit through the locked door after the ceremony, to the beautiful toasts, to the dancing and karaoke. It's the part Mr. Bart has looked forward to the most and we were not disappointed. We met with <a href="http://www.theknot.com/kl_vendordetail.html?id=197865&vendorsearch=Y&market=005&category=CCA&keyword=KANSAS%20CITY">Covenant Cakes</a> in Independence. Interestingly enough, their showroom is located in the basement of an old church built in the same style as <a href="http://www.hawthornbb.com/">Hawthorn B&B</a>. Mary, the baker, was extremely nice and very patient with this waffling bride. Her work has been featured in <a href="http://www.kcweddings.com/">KC Weddings Magazine</a> and is surprisingly affordable. After an hour or so we came to a design that features our favorite elements of these two cakes from <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/">Martha Stewart</a>.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxV0X3VH4MKiro2iO4GeVHSx1fkqZN-GhGJU-vDgxIENR8el3oUFLMy1OoV1Rj8DxwBUlt_BsQa1TPYS9qZZy0IG_31y-BUitvSBjyI75F3bdTJDpQ7mVkaILfo3csIjr9qV-iM4BINNY/s1600-h/Cake+1.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 315px; height: 392px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxV0X3VH4MKiro2iO4GeVHSx1fkqZN-GhGJU-vDgxIENR8el3oUFLMy1OoV1Rj8DxwBUlt_BsQa1TPYS9qZZy0IG_31y-BUitvSBjyI75F3bdTJDpQ7mVkaILfo3csIjr9qV-iM4BINNY/s400/Cake+1.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5286024976122164034" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMWOGcHPw26hVle-qgfEFJyn5KDtbvu38WbZNMssbovWKpgHdj1mC0WBH9eIX8WagPf9JPR8Cqg-WRoPM-j-IcFxVpx4QXxKX07E-7mGmjsCEmh5TVJMU4siHPoKESjW_z0JzLsx5dHJk/s1600-h/Cake+2.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 314px; height: 390px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMWOGcHPw26hVle-qgfEFJyn5KDtbvu38WbZNMssbovWKpgHdj1mC0WBH9eIX8WagPf9JPR8Cqg-WRoPM-j-IcFxVpx4QXxKX07E-7mGmjsCEmh5TVJMU4siHPoKESjW_z0JzLsx5dHJk/s400/Cake+2.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5286025122191429314" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The shape will be that of the yellow cake but the pattern will be similar to the eyelet design. The top tier will have a disk under it like in the eyelet cake so the the scalloped edge will be set off. In my mind it looks something like this...<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkdlDzbsPVPrEnpRLhywVzfLVdp7t25UFeuqW-jE5fr2dE_clThIOKUigOFEJKIpqJ9zWOXeP-An3UKFywf5M9LjMLKRaJi55vSU-5buwH5TuTcg4kSKD4kJF9JQkwuvQFXNf2kCwxteM/s1600-h/Our+Cake.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 248px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkdlDzbsPVPrEnpRLhywVzfLVdp7t25UFeuqW-jE5fr2dE_clThIOKUigOFEJKIpqJ9zWOXeP-An3UKFywf5M9LjMLKRaJi55vSU-5buwH5TuTcg4kSKD4kJF9JQkwuvQFXNf2kCwxteM/s400/Our+Cake.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5286529391292201922" border="0" /></a>Note the blank layer. The pattern is yet to be decided. Perhaps it will match the yellow and eyelet flower girl dress or maybe it will be the lace pattern on my dress. We'll just have to wait and see.<br /><br />Also, instead of the "crown" on top of the eyelet cake we'll have this <a href="http://www.weddingmountain.com/p-6658-2-contemporary-love-birds-cake-topper.aspx">cake topper</a>. I should probably get around to ordering it, huh?<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOSPgZw2bYtVv6C_EzWfCGRhvma-LBVRXAY9fy_jLEIiLy2ZvGRptSgcaGUj9dJiIY0q2q0J1Poa3Gud9_qY3NRX-zwXuNDVCsgsEzGIoP8NKLosJQhxrVJWDsyElPrQvcG0611xm2Ryo/s1600-h/Bird+Cake+topper.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 304px; height: 364px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOSPgZw2bYtVv6C_EzWfCGRhvma-LBVRXAY9fy_jLEIiLy2ZvGRptSgcaGUj9dJiIY0q2q0J1Poa3Gud9_qY3NRX-zwXuNDVCsgsEzGIoP8NKLosJQhxrVJWDsyElPrQvcG0611xm2Ryo/s400/Bird+Cake+topper.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5286025932465794738" border="0" /></a><br />Best of all, she will be able to use my recent purchase from Crate & Barrel to display the cake! The rest we'll have to fill in with either sheet cake, or depending on the budget, we may make 2 smaller and less elaborate cakes to coordinate with the larger one. Lo and behold we found just the right thing! No, it wasn't the Priscilla, but it looks amazing on her and comes with a much prettier price tag. Luck was on our side because Gail, the lady who helped me find my dress, was there to help us. She is a wonderful consultant. Helpful and attentive, but not at all pushy.<br /><br /><div>Here is the dress we ended up with</div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277622089543977170" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2044i1gcK8y3u22i5ynckkEisCS07LiE61ze3OvUz1N2z7TH0qtVM9s4qSWZzmXgNQ_eJlO4S4Bq-T7X6kbQtPVUCvkQ_8uNuJ7TzWNjsL0Lm7-gNmNpUm92RnkbrHob5bVua2u7rqx8/s400/1064CL.jpg" border="0" /><br />And this is Natalie in the sample<br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277622558847341986" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 267px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmT8s2KvF6BCAVehy7HVz9p2Dj6vE9550PUWhTG6EwdqjxDaztx8_hCtBq5KXG1Fs9g3O4q9HOpQAajHmDD7RyoiOeIcf7iEjUCjssP08Xhy4IdEj6XcpzleKtddso5AECqp-JGg8juOs/s400/DSC02561.JPG" border="0" />See, I told you. Well, wrong or not it's happened. Sadly, it's is wayyyy more expensive that I'd like it to be. As in, more that double. But a girl can drool anyway.<br />It's a Priscilla of Boston and the closest possible retailer is in St. Louis. The closest boutique is in Chicago. I've been scouring the internet for used ones to no avail. I'm thinking if I just happen to fall into some extra money I may have to buy it. Sounds like a fun girls trip to me!<br /><br />And this is it...<br />Drumroll please...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPBXChy6KP19tAGCBiWvacTcdG0-t5FX-KB7-paLmztXqqabTHbctV3nr5CdjvsDALlF3sNg7Q8LeayWmUBBRvVKm-xtDI33M-dLqj_PLQuUtazutjcoahw3MAZ4StMnLOdhT4K7NdJak/s1600-h/pb202_primary.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 222px; height: 340px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPBXChy6KP19tAGCBiWvacTcdG0-t5FX-KB7-paLmztXqqabTHbctV3nr5CdjvsDALlF3sNg7Q8LeayWmUBBRvVKm-xtDI33M-dLqj_PLQuUtazutjcoahw3MAZ4StMnLOdhT4K7NdJak/s400/pb202_primary.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277442117549432354" border="0" /></a><br />Only I would want it in wildflower...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiExWZLxqjiIo6sWc5FOGvUVObpj-xjrJAo39CS-_Vn-usMDpEUdOipWLKrsADzeuW_-UlLXwWijUHifyK511MLtRGAA6wD-bUoyuIc6Ho_y6H6409wOzOX4ogJqJ_oMFiEGroB5nfN2JY/s1600-h/pb203_primary.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 222px; height: 340px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiExWZLxqjiIo6sWc5FOGvUVObpj-xjrJAo39CS-_Vn-usMDpEUdOipWLKrsADzeuW_-UlLXwWijUHifyK511MLtRGAA6wD-bUoyuIc6Ho_y6H6409wOzOX4ogJqJ_oMFiEGroB5nfN2JY/s400/pb203_primary.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277442300127065442" border="0" /></a><br />Could it fit into our spring garden afternoon tea any better? Now, I realize this is potentially a hard dress to wear. You'd want to be tall, thin and beautiful. Fortunately my sister is all these plus some. I could not wear this dress. Not in a million. But Natalie would look amazing in it. I guess I'm just living vicariously through her.The Future Mrs. Barthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08269700954154536403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160687329779727419.post-3737785409343539222008-12-07T18:44:00.000-08:002008-12-07T20:47:43.637-08:00We have STD's!!Save the Dates, Silly! Why? What were you thinking? Today was a milestone day in the wedding planning process. Today things became a little more real. Today we mailed our save the dates. Can I get an "EEEEKKK" ?<br /><br />"EEEEKKK!"<br />(thank you for obliging)<br /><br /><br />And this is what our nearest and dearest will be receiving in a few short days.<br /><br />Sorry about the really horrible image quality. We had coupons and I'm a sucker for a coupon. With Mr. Bart in tow I managed to get all of our ceremony decor 40 and 50% off! Those of you know know him can attest to this. But last night he did something so great I felt the need to share.<br /><br />He brought me this!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuxemYTBAEoTLtEho6FWzE-MpKGyWd5OdbWmeNUaXy6TTpb0DknsqEcJ8HrUqc3v8or3GzJkrn7TLlqOJG1xpGyzWmR-3Ri7AoUbKhbFNhe8gzI-ArvbV8lRxCPClxev_oAXQzUpt7pwU/s1600-h/IMG_0241.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuxemYTBAEoTLtEho6FWzE-MpKGyWd5OdbWmeNUaXy6TTpb0DknsqEcJ8HrUqc3v8or3GzJkrn7TLlqOJG1xpGyzWmR-3Ri7AoUbKhbFNhe8gzI-ArvbV8lRxCPClxev_oAXQzUpt7pwU/s400/IMG_0241.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5271702246727191106" border="0" /></a><br />That's right, it's a passport application for our HONEYMOON!!! The most fun part is that I have no clue where we're headed other than I know there's a beach and cocktails with umbrellas involved and that it's obviously out of the country!<br /><br />To top it off he ran a bunch of annoying errands for me today because I had to work. One errand included going to Michaels to purchase stick thingy's with my 40% off coupon before it expired. The stick thingy's are for ceremony decor which I will post later. Yep, I think Mr. Bart's a keeper! The Future Mrs. Barthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08269700954154536403noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160687329779727419.post-17285184477495560412008-11-18T16:39:00.000-08:002008-11-18T16:58:18.732-08:00Color InspirationJust because...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8VHJMDg1kFvR-Yf2vKYHgrgFw9M-9DDUXYvNAsipClAQ5s42aP8Etj2ewX-94MmM0lPWzPLl7fpXXDwQ_cAsbjTQvSQfWZxN_jvg95WxA8DVcFNywLo9FLNQ6tSFWWoTWdaH1MzE6cfg/s1600-h/KSoMeJ.jpeg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 309px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8VHJMDg1kFvR-Yf2vKYHgrgFw9M-9DDUXYvNAsipClAQ5s42aP8Etj2ewX-94MmM0lPWzPLl7fpXXDwQ_cAsbjTQvSQfWZxN_jvg95WxA8DVcFNywLo9FLNQ6tSFWWoTWdaH1MzE6cfg/s400/KSoMeJ.jpeg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270166445583805074" border="0" /></a>The Future Mrs. Barthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08269700954154536403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160687329779727419.post-78004940811563623342008-11-16T20:16:00.000-08:002008-11-16T20:46:18.648-08:00Everyday Dining Room InspirationI wanted to make sure the dining room items we registered for were cohesive so I created an inspiration page for them too. I consider it a living project. As the planning continues and I get new ideas or finalize old ones I'll update it. I think it will be fun to see where my ideas started and where they end up. So here goes!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLQMlMargT4VBLjdBUXCQI1cWfH0UXfZm5rq92rsS6ESmujQW2R-o2kN062jSF5LOg4ec3xRNPJf74ADEI46S4FI70NLNCgL6hEwR9LylE3ga7aU3P6BcrAwtfr_S8BwpMX7CCM-gW1oM/s1600-h/Wedding+Inspiration+Board.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 310px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLQMlMargT4VBLjdBUXCQI1cWfH0UXfZm5rq92rsS6ESmujQW2R-o2kN062jSF5LOg4ec3xRNPJf74ADEI46S4FI70NLNCgL6hEwR9LylE3ga7aU3P6BcrAwtfr_S8BwpMX7CCM-gW1oM/s400/Wedding+Inspiration+Board.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269406096723908306" border="0" /></a><a href="http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/?action=view&current=nYH9Wo-1-1-1.jpg" target="_blank"><br /></a>The Future Mrs. Barthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08269700954154536403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160687329779727419.post-89620184621903945222008-11-13T19:49:00.001-08:002008-12-08T07:24:51.199-08:00Bridesmaid Dress ShoppingTonight was the first "official" BM shopping trip. We sorta cheated with Stephanie's dress. We found it on sale online at Nordie's and she ordered it in. Let me say that it is so stinkin' cute and at the risk of being a cliche, "she can totally wear it again." She doesn't even have to shorten it! I don't have a pic of her in it. Sadly, Steph broke her big toe and had to have surgery to put a pin in to fix it so photos are kinda off limits for the time being. Understandably so! Here's a picture of the dress on the model and I'm sure Steph'll look just as hot.<br /><a href="http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/?action=view&current=_5597524.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/_5597524.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Now, for tonight's trip. Natalie and I grabbed Stephanie's dress for coordination's sake and hiked over to Mia's in Olathe. They have an extensive Bridesmaid dress selection and as they just finished remodeling also have a very nice showroom. <br />Poor Natalie though. If you've never met my sister, well let me just say that for as much of a girlie-girl as I am, she most definitely is not! I think the dresses burned when she put them on. :) She looked very pretty, but since she hasn't worn a dress since Mom forced her into submission and wrestled her into an Easter dress when she was three she didn't exactly feel comfortable today. Not to mention, the consultant acted like she didn't even exist and would only really talk to me. She was a trooper though and tried on all the dresses I pulled out for her. We did find this style as our favorite at Mia's but of course we'll keep looking.<br /><br /><a href="http://s280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/?action=view&current=NatBM1-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk185/BartelstoBe/NatBM1-1.jpg" alt="Photobucket" border="0" /></a><br />It may not be "the one" but hopefully we'll be able to find a nice compromise between BM dress and punk rock jeans. The search continues...The Future Mrs. Barthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08269700954154536403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6160687329779727419.post-21140326663781452182008-10-22T21:28:00.000-07:002008-10-22T21:39:15.349-07:00Yummo!Catering - Check!!<br />Last night we had a second meeting and full menu tasting with Terrace Catering. <a href="http://www.terracecatering.com/">www.terracecatering.com</a> We really had a lovely night. We invited my parents over, I made bellinis, and we booked a caterer!<br /><br />They brought soooo much food and let me just say, these gals are fabulous!! They are super nice, make delicious food, are reasonably priced, and best of all - they are open for all kinds of ideas! They embrace doing things out of the "cookie cutter" and are so stoked about getting to cater a tea reception. In fact, they are the only caterer that we met who not only understood what we wanted, but were actually excited about it!<br /><br />Tonight we tasted...<br /><br />For cocktail hour:<br /><br />Peaches wrapped with basil and prosciutto<br />Ham, zucchini and gruyere mini quiche<br />Grilled shrimp with orange cilantro vinaigrette<br /><br />For the reception:<br /><br />Crab, mango and avocado salad<br />Baked brie with fruit and bread<br />Roasted potato with garlic aioli<br />California pita sandwich<br />Smoked salmon and chive cream sandwich<br />Turkey and brie on croissant<br />Roast beef and horseradish on croissant<br />Roast chicken and cranberry sandwich (my favorite!)<br /><br /><br />Overall everything was excellent! We will be changing the peaches a little since apparently no one like prosciutto. Instead we will probably do a honey, lime and mint glaze. Also we won't serve the quiche. We're looking at stuffed endive, tomato, and potato. Mmmm, I'm getting hungry again! The Future Mrs. Barthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08269700954154536403noreply@blogger.com0
